$500 on a Mastercard...
Provident was incorporated in 1996 by Michael Jagger to provide special event security services as a means to help cover University tuition. The company was started using a $500 limit on a personal Mastercard and has since grown to more than 200 team members and has become one of Vancouver's largest privately-held, full service security firms.
Provident offers a wide range of services for residential, commercial and industrial clients, including uniformed security guards, alarm and electronic security system design, installation and monitoring. Provident is also an accredited post-secondary institution for the purpose of teaching provincially mandated security courses required for licensing.

Provident's services are divided into three distinct divisions: Guard Services, Alarm Services and Special Event/Personal Protection. Our Guard Services Team offers uniformed security guards specializing in the high tech and pharmaceutical markets, community patrol services as well mobile patrol teams that provide guaranteed five minute response to burglar alarms and client emergencies, 24 hours a day. The Alarm Services division installs, services and monitors alarm systems for more than 4,500 clients. Provident has also installed sophisticated CCTV and access control systems for many of British Columbia's largest and highest risk buildings for clients including the Federal Government. The Special Event/Personal Protection division provides security for many of British Columbia's most important public figures, including several elected officials and business leaders. Provident also regularly provides VIP security services for many of Vancouver's most prestigious hotels.
Provident's most innovative and unique service is guaranteed alarm response. 24 hours a day, Provident guarantees a response of five minutes or less to client burglar alarms. Provident is the only firm in North America which offers such a guarantee.

In The Community
Provident is proud to be a very strong community supporter. In addition to sponsoring several Vancouver little league, soccer and high school teams, we are a major sponsor of the UBC Old Boys Rugby Club as well as the Kerrisdale Play Palace at the Kerrisdale Community Centre. 2004 was the first year a bright yellow Provident soap box car raced in the annual Kitsilano Soap Box Derby.
On a wider scale, Provident has twice received a Gold award for employee participation in our annual United Way campaign, the first security company in Vancouver to be awarded. Further, Provident is a proud supporter of the Children's Hospital through participation in the annual Miracle Maker's Network Telethon for the past five years as well as a long time supporter of Kids Help Phone, a national toll-free support line for children.
Provident is also associated with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) alarm installation program, and regularly takes on practicum students to offer on the job training each semester.
